John Labarca Has Passed Away

It is with great sadness that we share that John Labarca, host of WHLI’s popular Italian House Party program, has passed away after an illness.  In his 75 years, including a radio career that spanned 50 years, John more than left his mark on generations of Long Islanders and Connecticut residents with his larger than life personality.  From stories to nostalgia to great music, John’s Italian House Party was a Sunday staple in households across our area, often featuring special guests, and of course, great Italian food.

In addition to his radio career, John was a decorated Vietnam Veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and a father of two.  His son shared with us that he passed peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones who he cared for so much, and who cared for him until the end.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a donation in memory of John to the Wounded Warriors Project.

All of us at WHLI extend heartfelt condolences to John’s family, friends, and countless fans.  May he rest in peace.
