A JetBlue flight departing from MacArthur Airport for Orlando experienced an engine failure shortly after takeoff last week. The pilot reported the engine failure and diverted the flight to Kennedy I Airport, where it landed safely about an hour after departing from ISP. Airport firefighters reported that one engine was “completely destroyed”. The aircraft was towed back to the gate, where passengers deplaned safely. The Federal Aviation Administration said it is investigating the incident.
