Monkeypox vaccine appointments fill up as virus spreads

East Farmingdale, NY- Shortly after they went online, all of the available appointments for monkeypox vaccines on Fire Island were filled up. Suffolk County Officials say residents wanting to get a monkeypox vaccine should call 3-1-1 to be placed on a wait-list. The monkeypox virus continues to spread with New York City as its United States epicenter. As of July 11, the number of confirmed monkeypox cases in New York City were 223. On Long Island four confirmed monkeypox cases in Suffolk County and one in Nassau County. Monkeypox is spread through direct contact with sores or through respiratory droplets and rarely fatal.
