Speed cameras are being added to roadwork zones

Speed cameras are being set up in active construction zones across Long Island in an effort to keep workers safe.
New York launched the Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement pilot program on Monday to crack down on people speeding in work zones.

The Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement program is a result of legislation signed into law by Governor Hochul in September 2021. Motorists that travel over the posted speed limit will receive a Notice of Liability in the mail with fines attached.
For the next 30 days, drivers caught speeding in those areas will get warning notices.
After that, the first violation will cost drivers $50, the second $75 and the third $100.
