The Nassau Legislature Rules Committee has approved the lease transfer of Nassau Coliseum to Las Vegas Sands.
The vote happened following a public hearing that went on for six hours.
Las Vegas Sands is hoping to build a $4 billion resort at the site of the Nassau Coliseum. They still needed to receive one of three downstate casino licenses from New York state.
The resort they hope to build would include restaurants, a hotel and a performance space.
The lease transfer still needs to go before the full Legislature for final approval.
