Suffolk police say the suspect wanted in the slaying of Alex Smith in Mastic Beach last month has been taken into custody in Florida.
Joseph Scalafani will return to Suffolk County pending an extradition hearing.
Last month, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said Smith was with Scalafani’s ex-girlfriend at the time of the shooting.
