The MTA latest fare hikes went into effect Sunday
The new fares mark the first time that commuters have seen a price hike in the nation’s largest mass transit system since before the pandemic. The MTA last raised fares in 2019.
Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North customer’s ticket prices have increased by 4.5%, according to the MTA. Fares on subway and buses in the five boroughs have increased to $2.90.
The fare on NICE buses in Nassau county also went up.
