Sen. Charles Schumer says a total of $1.3 billion in federal funding has been secured to repair the East River train tunnel which corroded during Superstorm Sandy.
The repairs are not expected to disrupt Long Island RR and Amtrak service. Without the federal funding Amtrak was going to have to close each track for two years to fully fix them. The money will come from the infrastructure bill.
