Wind-energy developers Equinor and bp on Wednesday said they were terminating an agreement with New York State for an offshore wind farm off the coast of Long Beach called Empire Wind 2.
The decision comes as the developers work to increase the financial viability of offshore wind farms.
An Equinor spokesman says the company will make a determination in the coming weeks on whether to rebid on the project.
Empire Wind 2 had faced opposition in Long Beach because its cable would run through the city along highly trafficked roadways to a nearby waterfront substation.
